A transfer starts with a confidential conversation
You can speak to Flourish confidentially before making any decision about your current fostering service. The first conversation is simply an opportunity to explain what is prompting you to explore a move and to understand what Flourish can offer.
A typical transfer journey
- Confidential conversation — talk through your current situation, what you want to be different and any questions about the Flourish service.
- Explore the practicalities — we explain the transfer process, the information that may be needed and how your current circumstances could affect timescales.
- Decide whether to proceed — if Flourish feels right for you, we agree the next steps and explain when your current fostering service will need to be involved.
- Assessment and information sharing — transferring foster parents still need to be assessed and approved by Flourish, although your experience and existing records form part of that process.
- If a child is already living with you — the child’s stability and welfare come first. The relevant professionals and responsible authorities need to be involved so any proposed change is carefully considered.
- Approval and welcome — once the transfer is complete, you join your regional Flourish team and begin accessing the full support, training and community available to foster families.
What if I am currently caring for a child?
Transfers involving an existing placement need additional discussion and planning because decisions must be made in the child’s best interests. Our team will work with you to understand your circumstances and guide you and your foster child through the proccess.
A transfer is not only an administrative process. You should have the chance to meet the regional people who would support you, understand our therapeutic model and ask detailed questions about day-to-day practice.
Will my current service know I have spoken to Flourish?
An initial conversation with Flourish is confidential. If you later decide to progress a transfer, there will be a point at which information needs to be shared formally. We can guide you through how to do this and provide support throughout.
Will I need to do my Form F again?
A Form F tells the story of your life and experiences up to the point when you were approved as a foster parent. We can reuse much of the information from your previous Form F and work with you to update it with anything that has happened or changed since then.
What we will never do
- Pressure you to make a quick decision.
- Contact your current fostering service without the appropriate discussion and consent.
- Make assumptions about what you need before listening to your experience.
- Promise an outcome before we understand the full circumstances.
